How to Play Daily Number
Daily Number is a number-guessing puzzle: crack the hidden 4-digit number in 6 guesses. After every guess, the colors tell you exactly how close you are. Here are the rules and the strategy that solves it fastest.
1. The rules
Type a 4-digit guess and submit it. Each tile then turns one of three colors:
Green — right digit, right spot
Yellow — right digit, wrong spot
Gray — not in the number
You have 6 rows. Use the color feedback from each guess to narrow down the answer before you run out.
2. Best strategy
- Open with four different digits. A first guess like 1 2 3 4 (or 0 1 2 3) tests four numbers at once and gives you maximum information.
- Test new digits on guess two. If your opener had few hits, play four different digits next (e.g. 5 6 7 8). Across two guesses you can probe 8 of the 10 possible digits.
- Chase the yellows. A yellow digit is in the answer — just not there. Move it to a different slot next time to pin its position.
- Cross off the grays. A gray digit is gone — never reuse it. This shrinks the search space fast.
- Remember digits can repeat. If only three positions are solved and your remaining digits are all used up, the answer probably repeats a digit you already found.
- Lock greens, then permute. Once a position is green, keep it fixed and rearrange the rest.
3. Daily challenge & streaks
Everyone worldwide gets the same number each day, so it's a fair daily test. Solve it every day to build a streak, and share your colored-grid result to challenge a friend — without spoiling the answer.
